ADVOCACY: The heart of The Arc is advocacy for
individual and system issues regarding housing, medical concerns, education, employment,
access to services, government policy, etc. Community awareness and education
regarding disability issues, policy development, and coordination of efforts
with other human service organizations are also critical to improving
opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. The senior family
support project is an intermittent program
offering information, support, referral, future planning and advocacy to the
older parents, siblings and other family members who are giving in-home care to
a loved one with developmental disabilities.
VOCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERVICES (VDS):
Vocational Development Services assists and enables individuals to move forward toward their vocational goals. Individuals are supported to increase their socialization and communication skills, learn good work ethics and socialization skills, build employment skills and capabilities, learn appropriate employment etiquette and attire, develop and maintain natural support and broaden their awareness of realistic job opportunities and goals through integrated activities in the community. Activities include volunteering in the community, learning about and utilizing transportation for employment, participating in clubs and organizations, taking classes and connecting with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Vocational Development Services strives to constantly move an individual forward on their employment paths.
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS: Tailored to fit each individual's

parent participation, and consideration for family priorities and resources.

offers parents a way to connect with other families who share similar
experiences in parenting a child with a developmental disability or chronic
health condition. Through one-on-one support, workshops, parent
socials, education, newsletters, etc., this program helps parents better meet the
need of their children and their families.
PARENT COALITION: provides people with disabilities and their families with a support system that helps links them with their natural support system - the community, better understand and access the system, responds to crisis, involves them in decision making at the state and local levels and so much more.
SIBSHOP: Community exploration and guided
activities for children ages 5 to 13 years who are the sibling of a person with a disability or
chronic illness. Held on one Saturday per month, this is the only
program we know of that addresses the unique needs of siblings of children with
special needs in Clark County.
REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE: The Arc serves as
Representative Payee for individuals by helping administer their accounts and budget their funds
to ensure the
basic needs of food, housing and clothing are met.
GUARDIANSHIP: The Arc serves as legal guardian for
individuals with developmental disabilities who need this protection. As
