Parent Coalition of Clark County
Designed to help families navigate their way through systems
The purpose of the Parent Coalition is to provide people with disabilities and their families with an array of services that:
- Links families with their natural support system, the community, and other families who have similar experiences.
- Helps families to better understand and access the system.
- Responds to crisis.
- Involves families in decision making at both state and local levels.
- Provides current, accurate information, and networking opportunities.
- Forms a power base to advocate for the needs of people with disabilities in our community and state.
- Helps new parent groups get established and serves as a resource for leadership in new and existing groups.
The Co-coordinators gather pertinent information from all areas, including state and county government, service providers and advocacy/planning organizations. They also help organize community meetings and forums for the purpose of educating, sharing and discussing issues of mutual concern. The information gathered is distributed through the meetings/forums or via mailings and/or internet to members of the Parent Coalition.
Going to Work:
A Guide to Social Security Benefits and Employment for Young People with Disabilities
The purpose of this booklet is to give young people with developmental disabilities, their families and the professionals working with them some practical, hands-on information about work incentives.
The Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI) has released a booklet entitled, “Going to Work: A Guide to Social Security Benefits and Employment for Young People with Disabilities”. The booklet includes chapters on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), how the two programs are impacted by earned income, the Ticket to Work, and other guidance for young people managing Social Security benefits.
