Our society has come a long way from the time
when babies considered "defective" were taken directly from the
hospital to spend their lives locked away in institutions. But we have
still not seen the day when people with developmental disabilities are
fully integrated into our workplaces and communities, and universally
accepted as the unique, valuable and irreplaceable individuals they are.
